CELESTRA FOREVER AFTER *New Adult
New Adult 17+

(Skyla’s POV, Skyla with Wesley)

“God you’re here!” I snatch Gage and pull him behind the Student union. “This morning’s been a real mind fuck, excuse my French.” I try to shake all thoughts of Marshall and his warped sense of humor out of my mind. “You know what I really need?” I pull him deeper into the shadows and then start in with my assault. I land my lips hard over his and ride my leg up his thigh.
“Skyla, wait.” He pushes me back with a laugh buried in his throat.
“That’s the point, I’m waiting. I’m done waiting. I want this, Gage. I’m ready.” I jam my tongue so far down his throat he gives a hard groan.

Skyla! He turns his face and I use my Celestra strength to snatch him by the chin and meet my lips again.
“God, I love it when you struggle.” I’m sure that’s all kinds of twisted but holy hell it’s hot. I don’t what kind of newly imparted moral codes Gage has against making out on campus, it’s been our MO ever since we arrived at Host, but—
“I don’t know either.” He turns his head and I pepper kisses all the way down his neck. “Why don’t you go ask, Gage?”

I giggle into him, slipping my hand down the back of his jeans.

“A little role play, huh?”
“Skyla, I’m not Gage. It’s me Wes.”

Gah! I jump back like leaping out of a fire.

I don’t know what’s worse, kissing Wes, or having to confess this to Gage later.

                   Excerpt:

Nixon
I checked the time on my cell and leaned against the wall. The desert heat was not in any way helping my already-tense mood and irritated disposition. A guy walked by, flicking his cigarette into the dirt. Note to self: you know you're tense as hell when you’re halfway tempted to grab said cigarette and suck the nicotine dry from the remains.

And I didn’t even smoke.

Shhhit.

My head hurt, my muscles were sore, and Trace was pissed. I closed my eyes and leaned back against the building.

“Hey there.” A flirty voice interrupted my self-inflicted torture session. I opened one eye, then two. A blond-haired girl in six-inch heels and something I can only assume at one point use to be a shirt, hanging over her shoulder, walked into my personal space. Her shirt-dress thing barely met her thighs.
“Yes?” I kept my sunglasses on. If I took them off and glared, she’d probably run screaming down the street, and I wasn’t into scaring females… at least not in that way. I knew I looked downright pissed as hell.
“Just thought you looked lonely.” She lifted her shoulder and offered a teasing smile. Did that really work on other guys?
“You thought wrong,” I said simply. “I’m holding the wall up like Samson.”
“Samson?” She looked around as if waiting for another man to appear.
“From the Bible,” I clarified.
“The what?”
“Gotta love Vegas,” I muttered under my breath. “Look, I don’t want any.”
“Any what?” She ran a manicured nail down my chest, biting down on her lip at the same time. I could only imagine her point was to get me to stare at her lips, but all I felt was irritation. Damn Chase and Mil. I just wanted to go to bed, but I needed to talk with him before tomorrow.
“Sex.” My voice clipped. “I. Don’t. Want. Any.”
“But” She twirled a piece of blond- hair in her fingers.
“I’m gay.”
“Right.” She snorted.
“I’m into men.”
“Oh really?” She closed the distance between us. Just as I was ready to seriously put my hands on her and push, I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder.
“Hey there, hot stuff.” Tex said in a low voice as his hand grabbed my ass, cupping it with a little too much enthusiasm. “You ready?”
I ground my teeth together and forced a smile. “Yup.”
“Oh…” The girl stepped back. “Um, sorry, you guys, uh, enjoy your night.” She pushed past Tex so fast I was afraid she was going to teeter off her heels and get hit by a taxi.
“Tex.” I seethed.
“Hmm?” He took off his sunglasses and tilted his head as the girl hurried away.
“You can take your hand off my ass now.”
“Why? Afraid you like it too much?”

I pushed against him.

“Just embrace your feelings!” He shouted, earning the attention of a family walking by with their two little kids.

I grabbed him by the front of his shirt and threw him few feet away from me, trying my damnedest not to smile.
“Admit it. You keep me around for comic relief.” Tex nodded with a smirk.
“I admit nothing.” I lost the war against smiling and started laughing. “But I do keep your ass away from Campisi, so remember that next time you start yelling about me being your lover.”
“True.” Tex grinned. “Oh, and P.S., don’t knock it till you try it.”
“P.S.,” I repeated in the same voice. “Still pissed at you for screwing over my sister.”
“Yeah well.” Tex sobered. “It’s for the best.”
“Breaking her heart and bringing in whores is what’s best for her?”
Tex lifted his hands into the air. “Look, I didn’t say my methods were sound or that they were intelligent, just let us deal with it, okay? We’re big kids.”
“Kids.” I snorted. “That about sums it up.”

A town car pulled up next to the curb. Chase got out and then held out his hand to Mil. My eyes narrowed; she looked different. Happier.

Her mom had just died, and she'd survived a bombing.

And she was smiling like the Taliban had just declared world peace.

Chase gripped her so tight that I saw the white of his knuckles.

I tilted my head, still watching them when Tex said. “Dude, you get laid?”
“Tex,” I snapped. “Go get something for their luggage.”
“But
“Go.”
Tex flipped me off, but ended up jogging over to the main entrance while I inspected both Mil and Chase. “I’m not saying this to be an ass
“Here we go.” Mil crossed her arms.

Chase waited.

I licked my lips and tried to appear indifferent. “But if you guys start screwing each other now, I may have to shoot one or both of you. It’s not the time to play house, got it?”
“Play house,” Chase repeated in a deadpan voice as he dipped his free hand into his back pocket, most likely clenching a pair of brass knuckles.
“I know it’s your honeymoon,” I continued. “But this [P1] little scenario you’ve got going on with the whole hot and cold is going to have to wait until everyone’s safe. So Chase, keep it in your pants for once in your life, and Mil, stop trying to seduce the poor kid, alright? It’s like dangling a damn fry in front of a seagull.”
“Who’s a fry?” Tex asked, pulling the luggage cart with him.
“Mil.”
“Are we eating dinner or something? Because I have to admit,” Tex leaned against the cart, “I’m freaking starving.” He eyed Chase and Mil. “Then again, I’m sure you both are too. All those extracurricular really take it out of ya.”

Chase took off his sunglasses, his face twisting in irritation and annoyance, no smile. Nothing. He was pissed.

“Chase,” I said slowly. “You know I’m right. You’re the best I have. I need your focus to be on The Family. Your family. Then you can screw all you want, okay?”
Mil looked like she wanted to punch me in the face. Chase took a step forward, but she stopped him.
“Good talk.” I exhaled. “Chase, I’ll see you down in the bar in a half-hour, okay? We have business to discuss. Mil, you can go find the girls. They’re having dinner out by the pool.”

Nobody moved.

After a few seconds of tense silence where I was pretty sure Chase was trying to convince himself not to strangle me to death, Tex cleared his throat and pointed to the luggage. “You guys need help, then?”

“Yeah,” Chase croaked. “Thanks.”

We loaded them up and sent them on their way.

“Tell me,” Tex asked once we were walking back toward the bar. “Is your only goal to see how far you can push Chase before he kills you in your sleep?”

Fable by Chanda Hahn

Fable
Author: Chanda Hahn
Published: August 27th, 2013

Summary:

All that glitters is not gold.

When something precious is stolen from sixteen-year-old Mina Grime, she will do anything in her power to get it back, even if it means traveling to the dangerous Fae plane and battling one of the strongest fairy-tale villains yet.

However, nothing can prepare Mina for the dangerous obstacles she will face in the Fae world, or the choices she must make when love and life are on the line.

Review:

In the third book by Chanda Hahn, Fable, Mina is now facing a tale that everyone knows well… Rumpelstiltskin.  In the beginning, Mina decidedly starts to ignore the quests that are being handed to her. When all of this backfires on her, she loses someone very important in her life and she is now dealing with the consequences of her actions. While dealing with the aftermath, she meets Temple. He is, of course, of the Stiltskin Family, and like all Stiltskins’ he makes a deal with her. So now, she is flung into another quest to try and save the loved one that she thought was gone.

If I had to tell you which book in this series was my favorite, it would be this one. “Fable” has more action and Mina and starting to really come into herself. She is starting to grow and realize that there is no way to ignore and fight the quests. When things come to light and Mina loses yet someone that she cares very much about. However, secrets and new chapters bring this story together. Chanda leaves us with another cliffhanger and it’s a doozy of a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the next book in this series and I need it soon!!!

Fairest by Chanda Hahn

Fairest

Published: June 20th, 2012

Summary:

In the sequel to UnEnchanted, Mina Grime discovers that all is not fair when it comes to the Fae and their tales, especially when they don’t all play by the rules. But a new player arises to challenge Mina while new rules revamp the game she has just barely begun to understand.

All the while, people are mysteriously disappearing, including Jared, who Mina must finally determine to be friend or foe. And with the loss of her greatest weapon, Mina must try to outwit a deadly hunter. Can Mina survive the most difficult quest yet while protecting those she loves from falling victim to one of the deadliest tales of all? Or will she become a pawn when she strikes a bargain with the Queen of Fae?

Review:

In the second book in the Unfortunate Fairy Tale Series, "Fairest", we get to see the characters, Mina, Brody, Nan, and Jared again.

Again the story plays with the characters personalities but Mina's still has a bit of self pity about her. We are emerged into a few other Grimm fairy tales and Mina has to go on her quest to continue to break the curse.

We meet Brody's cousin, Peter who is the lead in a band. At first he just seems like a typical rock star who thinks he is god’s gift to man, but then we realize he is being played throughout the book too. So again, we’re not getting their true personality. We are getting the personality the Story wants is to see.

Throughout the book, Mina's self-pity get a little annoying again, she gets herself in trouble for one of the fairy tales. When she finally receives helps from an unlikely foe, she is able to overcome the mess she made.

Things don't end the way she wants them to though. She is left feeling just as jealous as she originally was. She finally starts to put pieces of the puzzle together and knows what she has to do. After she makes a challenge we are left with questions. What does this mean? Will her friends be used again? Will she lose the friend she made in Jared? It'll be interesting to see where Chanda takes the next book!

UnEnchanted by Chanda Hahn

UnEnchanted
Author: Chanda Hahn
Published: December 29th, 2011

Summary:

Mina Grime is unlucky, unpopular and uncoordinated, that is until she saves her crush's life on a field trip, changing her High School status from loser to hero overnight. But with her new found fame brings misfortune in the form of an old family curse come to light. For Mina is descended from the Brothers Grimm and has inherited all of their unfinished fairy tale business. Which includes trying to outwit a powerful Story from making her its next fairy tale victim.

To break the fairy tale curse on her family and make these deadly occurrences stop, Mina must finish the tales until the very Grimm end.

Review:

This is another new author for me, Chanda Hahn. I read the book "UnEnchanted" because Grimm fairy tale stories have always been a favorite for me. I really enjoyed this book because of the elements that it incorporated.

In this story, which I don't think I've seen this done before, we are introduced to Mina Grime. She is actually descended from the brothers Grimm. She likes to stay low key, is quiet and she does play 'pity me' games. Her attitude toward things started to get to me after a while, but it didn't push me away from the story.

Mina learns that she has to relive and finish all the tales that the Grimms' couldn't for the curse on her family to end. Throughout the book she finishes two of them. It was so interesting to see how the stories played and what she had to do to finish them.

We also meet her mute brother Charlie, who you cant help but love. He seems like a fun loving character and her best friend Nan loves his just as much as she does. Nan could be the most popular girl in school if she wanted too, but wasn't. She is a jubilant and sweet girl that will do anything to protect her best friend. She is a great character and I enjoyed her throughout the book. There's Brody, the 'prince' of the school. From what we are introduced to he seems like a great guy but the story plays his character around a lot. With that being said I don't feel like we got his true personality. Then there is Jared. I really like him. He is a fae who is sent to help Mina. He is a trickster and has his games but he also is strong and independent. He is serious and will joke when he can.

The characters helped to bring the story together. I think Brody and Mina needed a little bit more development, but it doesn't take from the story. I can't wait to read the next one!!!

Our readers poll: 80% say no way!
The other 20% wish they were her!

Read more inside...

Review:

I'm not really sure how I feel about “Seeing stars” by J Sterling. This is the first book I read by her. I really like it when it started off. I thought Madison was a strong independent woman and when she needed to she could stand her ground. Walker seemed like a typical singer who thought the ground he walked on we golden.

I liked the book, but it felt there was no build up. The relationship was there before you blinked. One minute Madison is standing strong and the second she is running into his arms. It was just a typical, cliché "OMG I've loved you since the time we spent together..." I just can't take books that do this seriously.

When Madison stands up to her boss i was jumping in my seat. "You go girl!!" She proved that she was a kick ass woman. However, it was all predictable.

Again... I liked the book in the beginning, but after reading the rest of the way I just felt like I was let down and everything I thought it was going to be wasn't there. I was left short of the real romance and I know not all books are going to have that, but I just couldn't take it seriously. It jumped too quickly and left too much development out. It was a short read that some may find enjoyable but I did not. I don't think I'll continue this series.

The Beast by Jaden Wilkes

The Beast
Author: Jaden Wilkes
Published: March 16th, 2014

Summary:

Dimitri Sokolov is a man scarred, physically and emothionally. From the rough streets of Moscow to the highest ranks in the Solntesvskaya Bratva, he has seen it all.

An attack four years ago left him disfigured and in seclusion, hiding from reactions to his appearance and in safety from those who failed to kill him the first time.

Comfortable in his penthouse, managing his billion dollar businesses, he’s resigned himself to be alone, simply called The Beast among those who’ve dealt with him in the past.

Columbia Grey is a pseudo-activist trying to save her neighborhood from a developer intent on levelling it to build apartment towers. She goes along with a plan to confront the CEO of the company on his own turf, to force him to listen to her demands…all in a pathetic attempt to impress a man she barely likes.

Little does she know, she’s taken herself into the mouth of the beast, a man familiar with death and destruction, sex, and seduction, a man used to getting exactly what he wants and a man with nothing left to lose.

She’s a beauty, but will that be enough to tame the beast and save her life?

*** Warning, this is classified as a dark erotic novel. It deals with some pretty heavy themes. It may trigger those who have experienced sexual abuse, rape, violence, basically a shitty childhood or life in general. I must be kind of messed in the head, because I thought it was a touching story full of amazing imagery and people with hearts that continue to beat and seek the beauty in the world in spite of life grinding them into nothingness. Apparently some early reviewers have found mainly the dark elements, so consider this your warning, for what it’s worth. This is not a fairy tale, this is what happened when the music ends and life goes on after the credit roll. This is simply existing until you find yourself and write your own happily ever after, no matter what form it takes.

Review:

When I first read the summary for “The Beast”, I was intrigued. When it said it had a bit of a Beauty and the Beast feel I got excited. Anything that is like beauty and the beast…I’m sold. However, I wasn’t. I was a bit disappointed with this book. It had the potential to be really good, but it felt rushed and a bit unreal.

We first met Dimitri who has gotten himself into trouble with a ‘mob’. He is an egotistical a-hole. Excuse the language. I couldn’t connect with his character and everything just fell short for me. I thought his whole back story was rushed and wasn’t built up. I tried to get into his character, but I just couldn’t.

When we met Columbia, she was a nasty woman with an attitude. The same that happened with the male character happened with her… everything just fell short. Everything happened too quickly. She volunteers for something just to make a guy happy. Yes… cliché…

From the moment that Columbia met Dimitri everything happens so quickly that if you blinked you would miss it. There was no relationship building or any sort. It was like, “get your hands off of me…” to “omg I love you” in less than a minute.  The ending was rushed and just left me feeling blah. I was left with whiplash and confusion. I was left with just an empty ending.

Undone by Shannon Richards

Undone
Author: Shannon Richards
Published: February 25th, 2014

Summary:

Things Paige Morrison will never understand about Mirabelle, Florida:

Why wearing red shoes makes a girl a harlot
Why a shop would ever sell something called "buck urine"
Why everywhere she goes, she runs into sexy-and infuriating-Brendan King

After losing her job, her apartment, and her boyfriend, Paige has no choice but to leave Philadelphia and move in with her retired parents. For an artsy outsider like Paige, finding her place in the tightly knit town isn't easy-until she meets Brendan, the hot mechanic who's interested in much more than Paige's car. In no time at all, Brendan helps Paige find a new job, new friends, and a happiness she wasn't sure she'd ever feel again. With Brendan by her side, Paige finally feels like she can call Mirabelle home. But when a new bombshell drops, will the couple survive, or will their love come undone?

Review:

From the first page of Undone, I was hooked. I didn’t want to stop reading. I'm not going to say it was amazing, but it was really good! The events that happened are very realistic and could happen to anyone

Paige was a quirky, sweet girl who had a bad couple of months. She went from having a job, her own apartment and a boyfriend she thought she loved and loved her back, to nothing and moving back in with her parents. After going on a job interview and her car breaks down, she finds herself at the mercy (and I use that term loosely), of Brendan the hot mechanic. At first she is judgmental and he gives it right back, but just his makes her start to fall. I think that Paige’s personality was all over the place. Sometime it was hard to keep up with her. However, she was a good character.

Brendan is a witty, carefree guy that has gone through his own share of problems. When he has the opportunity to go pick up the stranded new girl, he jumps. Their first meeting wasn't great with both being mean to the other. However, Brendan still goes out of his way to help her find a job.

Not only does she find a job, she becomes friends with Tara who is a fun loving girl and introduces her to Grace, Lula Mae, and a few other ladies. Paige starts fitting into the close knit town of Mirabelle.
