Better When Hes Brave - cover

BETTER WHEN HE’S BRAVE Excerpt:

I went to lower my lashes so I didn’t have to see how he really felt about me shining out of that reflective gaze.
“But as much as it pains me to say it, we can help each other out. In fact I think the only way to do this with minimal casualties is to work together. I want Roark and you want to keep your ass covered, and to do that, we need to be attached at the hip.”
I frowned at him as he continued to loom over me. “What are you suggesting, Detective?”
“I’m not suggesting it. I’m telling you that you are suddenly and irrevocably in love with me. You are obsessed with me and we are about to embark on a passionate, out-of-control, unexplainable, and very, very obvious romance. We are going to shove our new relationship so far down everyone’s throat that they are going to choke on it.”
I gulped and opened my mouth to tell him how crazy he sounded, but he reached out a hand and placed his palm lightly over my mouth. I scowled at him and contemplated sinking my teeth into the meaty part of his hand.
“Seriously, Reeve, it’s the only way. Bax will rein it in if he thinks I’ve got a thing for you. Nassir won’t back all the way off, but he’ll be less dangerous if he thinks he has to go through me to get to you. Plus, from what you’ve told me, and what I understand about whack jobs like Roark, if he thinks you replaced him with me, it’ll force him to move more quickly. He’ll come out of hiding faster if he thinks you moved on without a second thought. If you understand the risk involved, I’m willing to take them with you.”
I lifted both my eyebrows up and tapped my fingers on my knee until he took a step back as he gauged my reaction. I don’t know what he was expecting but he actually looked nervous as I climbed to my feet.
“What do you think?” His voice was low and he didn’t look away as I walked up so that I was standing directly in front of him.
What did I think? I thought there was no “suddenly” about being irrevocably in something that looked a lot like love with him. I thought passionate, out of control, and obsessive about summed up the way I already felt about him and that it would require zero acting on my part. I reached out and put a hand on the center of his chest. He was warm and hard. He felt like security and strength.
“I think you are going to have a much harder time pretending you like me than I will pretending I like you, Detective. Have you considered that?”
He balked a little and lifted a hand to circle his fingers around my wrist. I wondered if he felt my pulse kick at the touch.
“I do whatever it takes to get the job done.”
Oh, I bet he did. I smirked up at him and lifted up on tippy toes so that our lips were almost touching. I expected him to recoil, to back away in haste, but he didn’t. Instead his tongue darted out to lick across the curve of his bottom lip, and I almost groaned out loud.
“Prove it.” I whispered the challenge and then held my breath to see what this scary, sexy man would do once the gauntlet was thrown down.
He didn’t disappoint. He never did.

BETTER WHEN HE’S BRAVE Synopsis:

In New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jay Crownover’s third novel in her sexy, thrilling Welcome to the Point series, a woman’s search for repentance leads her to the one man from her past she can’t forget as they join forces to save their city—and the explosive love neither can live without.

Titus King sees the world in black and white. Right and wrong. Which is why as a teenager he left behind the only family he’d ever known to make a better life for himself. Now a police detective in one of the worst cities in the country, he can’t deny his life has turned into a million different shades of gray.

The new criminal element in The Point has brought vengeance and destruction right to Titus’s front door, and the difference between right and wrong is nothing compared to keeping those he loves alive. To add to his already strained moral compass, the beautiful and mysterious Reeve Black has made her way back to town, and she might be as dangerous to Titus as the guy trying to destroy the Point because he needs her—in more ways than one.

Reeve knows all about how ruthless this new threat to destroy The Point can be… and instead of running away, she wants to help. She has a lot to repent for and saving the city, plus the hot cop that she hasn’t been able to forget might just be the only way she can finally find some inner peace.

With an entire city poised on the brink of war, Titus and Reeve stand in the crossfire—and it will take two brave souls to fight for the ultimate love.

Excerpt
As the hours fly by, I drive closer to my doom. I begin to notice a weight in my body as if I’m being pulled towards my fate. My throat starts to constrict and it’s becoming hard to breath, I’m struggling for each ragged breath. Sweat beings to appear on my forehead and I have to pull over and loosen my tie. What the hell is wrong with me? My palms are sweating, and my heart races with loud, strong beats. The road in front of me becomes blurry, making it hard to keep my eyes open. What’s…going on with me?
Picking up my cell, I fumble with the phone until I find Doc’s number and click on it. She answers on the second ring. Forcing the words out of me…“Doc, something’s wrong with me. I…didn’t know who else to call. Please help me.”
“Where are you?”
Breathless, I answer, “I’m on the side of the road about four hours into my trip.” It’s becoming very difficult to answer her. I feel like I’m going to pass out.
“What trip? Where are you going?”
I grip my chest, trying to stop the pain. “You told me to look her up.”
“What are you talking about?”
Slightly frustrated at this point I force the words out. “My mother’s friend.”
“Oh. I didn’t mean you had to visit her just yet. Can you try to explain what’s going on?”
I describe my symptoms, and she explains that it’s just a panic attack. That everything is going to be fine. The trip has brought back so many memories. She tells me to close my eyes and find my happy place. So I do as instructed, and I find Anaya’s beautiful face. “Now take some long, slow breaths and tell me what you see.”
“Anaya and her golden brown eyes. Her beautiful chocolate brown hair. That sassy smirk on her face as she gazes helplessly in my eyes.”
“Perfect. What are you feeling now?”
“Peace.”
“Good, now how about your other symptoms?”
“I’m starting to cool down and my breathing is returning to normal. My chest is loosening up too.”
“That’s great. You had your first panic attack. It’s probably brought on by the fact that you’re pushing yourself too fast. You needed time to warm up to the idea of going back home. But now that you’ve set yourself on this path, you need to face it. How long until you’re home?”
I shudder at the word home. “I should be there in about six hours or so.”

Release Day Launch and Review: Strong Enough by M. Leighton

Strong Enough
Author: M. Leighton
Release Date: August 4th. 2015

Summary:

Is she strong enough to trust the most dangerous man she’s ever met? And is he strong enough to let her?

How would I describe myself? Well, I’m Muse Harper. I’m a twenty-something painter who loves red wine, quirky movies, and men with a fatal flaw. But that was before I met Jasper King. He became my fatal flaw. Eight months ago, I had a choice to make—abandon everything I’ve ever known to protect my family, or stay and risk someone getting hurt. I chose the former. My plan was working just fine until I found out my father had gone missing.

That’s when I met Jasper. A bounty hunter with the eyes of a tiger and the nose of a bloodhound, he was supposed to help me find my father. What I didn’t know was that meeting him was no accident. Hunting people isn’t all that Jasper does. And helping me was only part of his plan. I just wish I’d found out sooner, before my heart got involved. But even then, I don’t know if I’d have done things differently.

Now, I have another choice to make—trust the man that I’m falling in love with and hope that he’ll do the right thing, or run as far away from him as I can get.

Review:

ARC provided for an honest review

I had the honor of reading another book from M. Leighton. I am pleased to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I honestly don’t think there are any books that I don’t enjoy from her.  M. Leighton knows how to draw you in right from the start and I love that about her books. I’m always quickly thrown into a world of awesomeness as soon as I open the book.

Muse Harper is our female lead and she is naïve which did grate on my teeth alittle bit, but I still enjoyed her. She has made so many sacrifices for someone whom she cherishes so much that when he goes missing, all bets are off. She goes above and beyond to hire a bounty hunter to help her find the answers to problems. That’s where Jasper King comes in.

Jasper is dark and secluded. He very rarely answered questions that Muse asked. I thoroughly enjoyed that. I liked that everything from his past wasn’t thrown out there in the matter of three chapters. It allowed us to see the growth that Jasper makes. You can tell from when you first meet him that he has a secret; that there is something that he is hiding.

As the story progressed, the chemistry between Muse and Jasper grew and grew. Jasper was absolutely dirty… is a very VERY good way! He had the whole package, muscles, tattoos, and a dirty mouth (hehe). Each scene was an amazing build up to the next mind-blowing scene. Jasper starts to feel guilty for double crossing Muse, but he knows he has to in order to achieve the outcome he is looking for.

As everything starts to slowly unfold, we get to meet the other boys in the Tall, Dark, and Dangerous series. We don’t get to see much of them but they showed the type of dynamics that the whole team has together. I am eagerly waiting for the next two installments of this series.

I loved this book. It was another brilliant book by M. Leighton. With all the twists and turns within this story, you’ll be left breathless and guessing what is going to happen next. I loved the suspense and the mystery within this story. Whenever you thought you knew the answer something led you in a different direction. You won’t be disappointed in this book.

Review: Elude by Rachel Van Dyken

Elude
Rachel Van Dyken
July 9th, 2015

Summary:

**This book is the sixth book in the internationally bestselling Eagle Elite Series. It's an interconnected standalone with no cliffhanger. **

Twenty-Four hours before we were to be married--I offered to shoot her.

Ten hours before our wedding--I made a mockery of her dying wish.

Five hours before we were going to say our vows--I promised I'd never love her.

One hour before I said I do--I vowed I'd never shed a tear over her death.

But the minute we were pronounced man and wife--I knew.

I'd only use my gun to protect her.

I'd give my life for hers.

I'd cry.

And I would, most definitely, lose myself, to a dying girl---a girl who by all accounts should have never been mine in the first place.

I always believed the mafia would be my end game--poisoning my heart, while it claimed my soul. I could have never imagined. I would be my redemption.

Or the beginning of something beautiful.

The beginning of her.

The end of us.

Review:

I have read every book in the Eagle Elite series by Rachel Van Dyken, and none of them have affected me the way that Sergio’s book, Elude, has affected me. This whole series has brought so much to the table. It has mixed romance and heartbreak, romance and hate, suspense and revelations, friendships. I have seen such growth from Rachel in this book. She used her words to break down all the walls that were built up. Her words broke me down and twisted me in more ways than I can count. Sergio slowly made his way into my heart with this book and I didn’t want it to end.

Elude is all about sacrifice in my opinion. Two individuals are thrown together in hopes that 1: one will protect the other, and 2: they learn from each other. This story brings Andi and Sergio together in less than desirable circumstances.  Andi is dying. She was such an amazing character. She’s a spitfire. She doesn’t care how she goes about things, including using pots and bats in a completely hysterical way. She’s not afraid to stand up to any of the guys even though they could end her with a pull of their finger. She puts them in their place and brings them all closer together in the long run. She proved more than once that she could handle her own, including handing them their own asses. She showed Sergio that even though she was dying; and knew it quite clearly, she wasn’t going to let her control her. Andi brought the good out of Sergio. She pulled the emotions from him even though it may have been unwillingly for a little bit but slowly Sergio began to fall deeper and deeper for her.

Sergio was so against marrying Andi. Why marry someone that is going to die and leave him broken-hearted. Sergio was used to being by himself. Things were always changing and being who he was, made it difficult to have a life. Sergio’s heart was full of malice and contempt. When forced to marry a special little Russian, the walls surrounding his heart start to fall. Before he even marries Andi, he’s cold, mean, and downright nasty to her. Andi doesn’t let it faze her though. She continues to stay perky and upbeat. As she slowly breaks away the cold, hard ice, from Sergio’s heart, the two of them begin to embark on their own future, no matter how short or long it may be.

This book also showed the crazy connection between all of the guys. They proved that they were together through it all. They continued to make me laugh every though I was balling my eyes out. Their friendship knows no bounds. Each of them holds a special place in my heart and with this book they have embed themselves even further in. Their sarcasm, they humor, their love shows how they truly care for one another.

There isn’t much more I can say about this book without giving everything single thing away. I cried…. Hard. Big. Ugly. Crocodile Tears. Every emotion I felt in this book, hit me bad. This book is beautiful. Its beautifully heartbreaking. Its beautifully romantic. My heart was twisted in a million different ways. One scene specially completely broke me, shattered me. I laughed, I cried, and I drank lots and lots of wine. This book was absolutely fabulous. Read it… seriously read it. you will not be disappointed at all.
