Review: The Hazards of Sex on the Beach by Alyssa Rose Ivy

The Hazards of Sex on the Beach
Author: Alyssa Rose Ivy
Release date: July 21st, 2014

I received an early copy of this book for an honest review. Thank you Inkslinger PR!!!

Summary:

One broken heart, one drink too many, one steamy night in the sand...

No one warns you about the dangers of drinking with a broken heart. At least no one warned me. I never imagined I'd fall for a musician, especially not one like Chase, but then again I never expected to have my heart broken into a million pieces by the frat guy I thought was the love of my life.

Sometimes it's the rash decisions, like hooking up in the sand, that lead you to the best places—the kinds of places where it's possible to let yourself fall in love again.

Review:

I was given an early copy of “The Hazards of Sex on the Beach” and I was so completely taken back by it. Of course, I probably should have read the first two books in the series before reading this one, but I wasn’t lost. I wasn’t completely thrilled with the storyline to begin with, having felt like I had recently read one similar, but I was drawn into Alyssa Rose Ivy’s writing.

Cara’s initial meeting with Chase was by chance of course and it was hot. With Cara trying to forget about an unfaithful ex-boyfriend, she drinks heavily.  Naturally anything can happen and with alcohol in her system, I began wondering if the attraction was because of that or because she truly liked him. Immediately hitting it off and talking about things that were important to her I liked where it was going. Things lead from one thing to another and the two have HOT sex, on the beach. However, when Cara doesn’t give her number or any of means of contact to Chase, it’s clear that everything with Chase was just a way to forget about everything.

I loved Cara’s playful personality. She knew when she needed to be serious and when she could laugh and play. I definitely felt like she was more serious than anything, but she really was sweetheart that was burned and was picking up the pieces. Her friends were great. They gave her space when she needed space; they lifted her up when she was down. They were a great backbone for her. I loved Rachel’s character also. She was witty and fun. She added more to the story and whenever she was in a scene, she was so much fun to read.

Chase was such a sweetheart. He was a rock star, without the ‘love me, I’m a rock star’ personality. He was so laid back and that made me love him more. He really seemed too good to be true. He truly is a book boyfriend because finding a guy like that seems to be like finding a needle in a haystack. Finding Chase was perfect for Cara. He was what she needed to really get over her ex. He proved to her that she was special. That she was a beautiful girl. Watching the two of them work through such a long distance relationship was refreshing. Yes, it hurt. Yes, there were times when the other wanted the other to be with them. However, even though it was a book, it proved that long distance relationships can work if you put your mind body and soul into them.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It was so refreshing seeing as the last couple of books that I read were disappointing. I’m looking forward to picking up the first two books in the series and reading about the other characters. You won't be disappointed when you read this book. Definitely take the leap of faith and give it a try! This book can be read as standalone and there is no cliffhanger.

Review: Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire

Beautiful Oblivion
Author: Jamie McGuire
Release Date: July 1st 2014

Summary:

Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster phenomenon continues in the first heart-pounding new adult romance in The Maddox Brothers series.

Fiercely independent Camille “Cami” Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.

Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.
As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.

In the first installment of the Maddox Brothers books, readers can experience the rush they felt reading Beautiful Disaster for the first time, all over again.

Review:

Okay, so I really liked this book. Overall, I give it a 3.5 and only because I felt like it was very similar to Beautiful Disaster. When I learned that there were going to be getting books on the other Maddox Brothers, I was stoked!!! However, If they are all going to be like this, I don’t think I’ll be able to stomach them. I totally get them being similar, but I would have liked a little more diversity.

I really liked Trent’s character. I thought he was great in Beautiful Disaster and wanted to learn more about him. That fact that he is a tattoo artist just makes him hotter in my eyes. His personality is very similar to Travis’. He is a bad boy with a sweetness about him. He is protective of his family. Also, if he doesn’t want to sleep with you he seems like a really awesome friend.

Cami is a strong female character especially with the shit hand that she was dealt. From the moment that Trent walks into her life she knows that she is screwed. She has had a hard time trying to deal with having a long distance relationship with a boyfriend that we don’t know much about. She tries steering clear of Trent in respect to him, but she finds it hard to do and develops a friendship.

Cami’s crazy, unpredictable family brings a sense of danger to the story and proves that everyone can be vulnerable. What bothers me the most about Cami is how she lets Trent steal her heart when she already has a boyfriend. What bothers me about Trent is the fact that he keeps pursuing Cami even when he knows that she has boyfriend. I understand being friends with someone but there is a line to be drawn and I wish one of them had drawn it.

With the abundance of secondary characters that were introduced in this story, I felt it took away from Cami and Trent’s relationship. There could have been more about them instead of us, as the readers, trying to figure out what was going on with the other characters. Bringing so much into the story took from the buildup. We also get to see little bits of Travis and what he went through in Beautiful Disaster. We got to see how Cami played key parts into getting Travis’ ass into gear.

The twist at the end (something I won’t divulge to you) was figured out quickly and it was only confirmed in for me. It kind of mad me angry that Cami would do what she did but it only made me interested into how Jamie McGuire was going to spin it. Overall, it was a good book. I just wish it had been a little bit more different. I can’t wait to the next Maddox brother book and I hope it’s better than this one.

Review:

When I finished reading "Elect" by Rachel Van Dyken I couldn't wait for the next book in the series "Entice". I was absolutely wowed with this book and I have grown to love chase even more!

Entice is about Chase and Mil. I was so sad for Chase at the end of "Elect" and I was truly hoping that he would get a happily ever after! Since we've already met Chase, there's not much I can say that hasn't be repeated. He's just as sweet and even more lovable in this book. His loyalty and respect for Mil makes him a better guy in general. He takes care of her and even though Nixon did what he did for a reason, Chase stood up for her. Chase steps up in the book. He makes a bad situation better and he proves that he can grow up. Mil does that for him. In this book, he becomes the man that we all know he can be.

Mil was an even better addition to the cast of characters. She is a strong, independent woman, but she also is vulnerable and it makes her normal. Her snarky attitude allowed for humor throughout the story. Her demons in her past make her vulnerable, but she fights through it. She doesn’t let it control her. She proves that even females can kick ass and make a name for herself. She doesn’t let the death of her father and brother dictate how her life she be.

This book unfolds into more adventures and more about the families. Things change and loyalties are challenged. Will everything that has been built be thrown to the wind? From what we can tell: Everything is going to change and I’m not sure everyone is ready for it.

About INDISCRETION: VOLUME ONE

F*ck and chuck. Pump and dump. Hit it and quit it. One night stand. Didn’t matter how I branded it—that’s all she had wanted it to be. That much was clear when she left me with my pants down and my dick still out.

What she hadn’t counted on was fate intervening and our worlds colliding—again.
The day I showed back up in the life of Chloe Griffins, I knew I had to have her again. My body was hungry for another taste. Like an addict, I’d been craving another hit for months, and there she was—flesh and bone, tits and ass.

The fact that she worked for the competition should’ve been reason enough for me to leave her alone. I had a job to do that summer and f*cking Chloe wasn’t part of it. But I was like a man possessed.

I’d do whatever it took to have her again.
