Playing for Keeps
Author: Emma Hart
Published: June 24th, 2013

Summary:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Emma Hart, come the second book in The Game Series, and the story everyone wanted after The Love Game…

She’s in love with him.
He’s trying not to love her.
One night chances everything.

Aston Banks never meant to get close to Megan Harper – not even for that one night. Haunted by a childhood he refuses to face, he knew she could break through every wall he’d ever built and tear them down without even realizing she was doing it.

Betraying Braden by starting a relationship with Aston wasn’t on Megan’s to-do list, but the second she sees a glimpse of someone other than the arrogant ass she’s come to know, she can’t walk away.

Aston’s childhood is worse than Megan ever guessed, but as he tries and fails to push her away, it’s clear her love is stronger than the demons that cling to him every day. And now, because of it, he finally has to deal with what he’s buried deep down.

What he doesn’t want to face. What he’s fought against for so long.

And they have to do it all without Braden finding out.

Keeping a relationship secret has never been harder.

Review:

Secrets.... They are made to protect, but they are also made to hurt. No matter what we think is right, secrets always do more harm than we think. That's what Aston and Megan's relationship started out as at first.

Aston is the resident college slut at Berkeley. Braden, who we met in The Love Game is his best friend. Braden is also Megan's best friend. Braden has made falling in love a hassle for Megan. No one gets close because he has threatened everyone. When he goes away with Maddie, Megan takes her chance to be with Aston. Of course the two are doing this in secret, not wanting anyone to know. She doesn't want Braden to hate her. Aston is a deeper than we think character. Of course there is alittle bit of damage that we learn about which makes his character alittle bit more understanding. He sleeps with girls to forget about his terrible past. By sleeping with them and not keeping any close he uses this as an out to have have to feel. But when Megan finally comes into play, when they finally 'hook' up, his past disappears. She makes everything better. She helps him forget everything.

Megan is a quiet but strong girl that knows what she wants but has to worry about the overbearing 'big brother' Braden all the time. When she takes things into her own hands she realizes the guy she is crushing on is more than what she thought. She learns more about him and it makes her fall harder. Keeping the secret from Braden kills her but she knows that he will be approve of it. After Aston tells her about his past, she wants to be there for him more. She proves to him that she was going anywhere and she sticking around to help him fight those demons.

When their secret is found out, Megan and Aston reveal their true feelings for each other. They want to be together and they weren't going to let anyone break it apart. They didn't want to hurt anyone but sometimes it happens. Everything happens for a reason.

This was a nice quick read that I recommend to everyone. It's another great book from Emma Hart and I can't wait to read the next installment!

"Not everything is made to be shared. Not every scar is on the physical body. Sme scars are on the mind. Some scars can't be seen. They're inside, burned in so deeply that they'll never be healed." - Aston
