Summary:
Every touch has
its price
Layla Shaw is
trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a
seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly
gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious
powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her
is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the
wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.
But sometimes
rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to
evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been
forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing
news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always
wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up,
the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay.
Review:
When I first
started this series, I was completely enthralled with these characters. After
reading, “Stone Cold Touch”, I’m even more in love with Roth than I was in the
first place. Layla seriously needs to make sweet Demon love with this guy. I
couldn’t have been happier with this book. Jennifer did it again keeping me up
all night long because I wanted to see what happened next. Now I have to wait
for “Every Last Breath” and I need it like yesterday!
When we left
Layla in “White Hot Kiss” she was devastated at losing Roth. When we return to
her, she is mourning him even more. She has grown ever closer to Zayne and
honestly I was not happy. She doesn’t belong with Zayne. I get the whole warden
concept and how they want to protect everything, but it comes to a point where
Back the heck off! Layla slowly starts seeing a change in her powers. Things
are even more wonky than they were before and then Roth returns.
ROTH FREAKING
COMES BACK! I literally squealed when I read the very page that he returned.
Jennifer has a way of making her characters more than they seem and that is
exactly how she makes Roth. I loved him in the first book and I loved him even
more in the second. Roth comes back on another mission for the Boss. Everything
changes quickly. Things are revealed and you have that “Oh crap…” moment and
you’re left holding your breath.
Layla is torn now
between the boy that she has loved since forever and the one that she can be
herself with. She really comes into her own in this book. She starts exploring
more of her demon side. She gives that side of her more of a chance. This really
shows her growth. This growth doesn’t feel rushed either. Her personality is
gradual and grows as the book goes on, it’s not sudden. I loved the
introduction to witches in this book. I thought it gave a great new element to
the supernatural in the story. Honestly, Zayne for me is a great guy. I really
do like him, but I feel that he’s got more of that best friend/brother feel to
him.
This love triangle is believable and one of the best ones that I have seen. Each has the potential to be hot and steamy and some scenes really leave you panting for more. I can't wait to see what Jennifer does in "Every Last Breath". Will Layla fall completely for Roth (which I'm really hoping for) or will she go with the safe route (in my opinion)? This series has definitely grown fantastically. It's an enticing story that is a bit outside the normal boundaries. The length is just right and it doesn't feel long and overbearing. It's just the right about of crazy!
