Review: A Fighter's Desire by L.P. Dover

A Fighter’s Desire
Author: L.P. Dover
Publish date: July 28th, 2014

Summary:

**A Fighter's Desire is an introductory prequel novella to the Gloves Off series. If you love sexy, MMA fighters you don't want to miss out on the hardcore, tap out action with my twins, Ryley and Camden. They're ready to get down and dirty on the mat.** The conclusion to their stories will be coming soon in their full length novels.

Two is always better than one.

What would you do it you were given the chance to spend the night with not one, but two fighters? Would you do it? Could you open yourself up to the pleasures that offered and do exactly what they said in order to pass on to the next round?

I was common knowledge that Ryley and Camden Jameson, well-known MMA fighters and identical twins, were just as aggressive and passionate in the bed as they were in the ring. They only problem was that if you didn't pass their test on the first night, then you didn't proceed to the next round. They loved a good fight, and that;s what they got when they met Ashleigh Warren.

Ashleigh knew what was going to happen when the twins approached her with a proposition and needless to say, she knew exactly how to handle them ... or so she thought. The rules had changed, and in order to get them both she had to first spend one night with each and last until they were done with her. It was a proposition she couldn't refuse, but she knew it wouldn't be easy to win. However, it was on that she was going to enjoy.

**Second installment

When you’re told to stay away from someone or something it only drives the urge to go after it more. In this case, that was exactly what happened. For years, Gabriella Reynolds—younger sister of MMA’s Heavyweight Champion, Matt Reynolds—was warned by him to stay away from his fighter friends; she deserved better and they would only break her heart.

Did she listen? Yes, for a while, but temptation can only consume you so much until you fall into its trap. There’s a certain fighter she’s interested in, and it just so happens that he’s her brother’s best friend, the only one that is completely off limits to her. However, she’s not the only one fighting temptation. Tyler Rushing can’t deny his attraction to her, but he’s afraid she’ll want more and he can’t give that to her. When he finds out that’s not the case … everything changes.

Secrets can be dangerous, but they can also be thrilling and intense. Gabriella and Tyler have no choice but to keep their time together a secret … and it’s a secret that’ll stay with them forever.

Review:

I received an ARC of A Fighter’s Desire for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. At first I was worried but I really liked the concept behind it. Please remember when reading this that this is just the introduction to the characters. There have been many books about fighters that I have read, but this one was a bit different. This book is two stories in one. However, the characters from each story are in the other. If I had to choose my favorite of the two, it would be the second story. I don’t know if it is because the characters in the second story had a little bit more growth or if the story behind it was much better. I’ll try to do this with no spoilers.

Part 1:

The first story was about Ashleigh, Ryley and Camden… Ashleigh, our female lead and our twin MMA fighters, Ryley and Camden. Yes you heard me right, TWINS! I was so intrigued. Very intrigued. I couldn't wait for the Wham, Bam, Thank you Ma'am... but it didn't come! There was romance and sweet talking and then it was like, "Nope, no thank you." I was a little disappointed. It wasn't the big happily ever after that i was looking for. I was not expecting the behavior of either twin; either of them. One I wanted to punch in the face... multiple time and the other I was falling for.

I thought this first story was more rushed and thrown together for lack of better term. The characters didn’t really seem to grow and from what we saw I thought they could have been developed so much more if they were given more time. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed this first story. Would I get the twin action that seemed so likely to happen? You’ll have to read to find out! (wink, wink).
Excerpt:

“What Camden said … is it true? Are you actually worse than him?”

Ryley sighed and took my hands in his, pulling me back to him. “At first I was,” he admitted. “I’m the one who brought the women to him to help him cope. I’m the one who led him down that path. I confess I’m not the nicest guy and I sure as hell have never given a damn about anyone, but I can honestly say that how I’ve been with you right here and now is who I really am.”

“So after you take me home tomorrow you’ll go right back to the way you were?”

He kissed my palms and smiled. “I don’t know yet, that all depends on you.”

Part 2:

As for the second story, I was much happier with the characters and how they grew. They were given the chance because we had meant them earlier. I thought the storyline was much better and I liked Gabby so much more than Ashleigh. She seems like she has more to her and I really want to see her more throughout this series. I thought she was a more grounded individual. She is sassy and smart. She knows what she wanted and even though it may have seemed like it, she didn’t want to lead anyone.

As I seemed to get closer to the end, I was uncertain of where everything was going. I really thought it was going to end in a completely different way. When I finished and I got to the end, my exact feelings, “What the Hell just happened?!?” I was a little discouraged. However, when I saw I was going to see Tyler again, I calmed down.

Excerpt:

Breathing hard, I stepped out of Tyler’s reach and started for the door, much to his dismay. “Why are you here, Gabriella?”

Keeping my back to him, I paused with my hand on the knob, and blew out a heavy sigh. “I told you. When I want something, I get it. I wanted to see you.”

“You’re walking a dangerous line, Gabriella. I don’t do relationships, and I don’t plan on starting … even if it is with you.”

I glanced at him over my shoulder. “Well, then I guess it’s a good thing I don’t want one with you either. Look, Tyler, I’m only here for the weekend. If you want to see me again you know how to find me. No strings, just you and me.”

Overall, I was happy. I was pissed off. I was confused and I shook my head plenty of times. I think I actually screamed at the book at one point. I’m really looking forward to the next books and hoping that everything will come together. I don’t think I even care if it’s in a bad way or a good way. I need more closure than what we were left hanging with. I can’t wait to see more development in these characters because I really grew to enjoy them even though it may seem like I didn’t. This book is definitely a winner and should really be read by all!
