“I wish I were there wearing your clothes right now.”

He laughed. “That’s what you want to be doing? Because I’d like to be fucking you if you were here.”

“Well, that too. But then I’d put on your shirt.”

“You like that, don’t you?”

“I know you do too,” she said.

“I do. Seeing you in my shirt and your heels is my kryptonite.”

“Oh, is that it? That’s your kryptonite?”

“Or maybe it’s just that you are,” he whispered, admitting more than he wanted to.

“I think the same could be said here.”

There was a pause, and though they were three thousand miles apart, the silence was heady. He was in a drugged-out state tonight. This woman was his pill, and closeness with her was what he craved most even as he feared she would destroy his heart. Smash it to a million tiny pieces and eat it for lunch. But he had a built-in barrier in distance, and with no trips to San Francisco on his immediate calendar he saw nothing wrong with this temporary moment of relief from the pressure inside of him from wanting her. They couldn’t be together in any meaningful way, and he couldn’t get hurt if he didn’t actually see her. Right? Right, he answered for himself.

“What are we doing, Julia?” he asked, and he was sure she could hear the longing in his tone, but he didn’t care. There was no need to hide it after they’d just broken down and pleasured themselves together.

“What are you going to do when we hang up?” he asked, changing direction.

“Read a book.”

“What are you reading these days?”

“A crazy story about a guy who treks across Antarctica.”

“That does sound crazy.”

“Yeah. He’s kind of hallucinating and talking to penguins right now,” she said with a small laugh.

“Can you blame him? I have to imagine if you’re stuck in the polar ice cap that talking to penguins might be a rare source of comfort.”

“As long as he doesn’t eat the penguins I’ll keep reading it.”

“Here’s to no penguin meals in the books we read.”

“What will you do?”

“I suspect I will fall fast asleep and dream of a beautiful redhead on the other side of the country.”

“She would like that dream very much,” she said in a sweet voice, the kind that worked its way beneath all the hard edges in him, and settled deep in his heart. “Will I talk to you again soon?”

He took a fueling breath, and put his armor back on, steeling himself. “I don’t know the answer to that.”

Review:

When Abbi Glines said she was going to write Fallen Too Far in Rush’s point of view I was over the moon!!!! I couldn’t wait to see what was going on in his head during this book. I was not disappointed one bit! Overall, this really was Fallen Too Far retold from Rush’s point of view, but you had many differences.

Everything that we didn’t get, his feelings, his conversations with Grant and Nan. Everything that seemed to be missing from Fallen Too Far was here. Being able to see what he really thought when she first showed up was awesome. He truly is a guy that is torn between his family and the one girl that might actually be it for him. Rush is loyal to everyone in his family, except for maybe his mom and you can see the way he is really messed about with how the handle something that he created.

After destroying the home of the sweet girl that came walking into his life, he tries to stay away. He warns her multiply times to steer clear. Honestly though… can you really stay away from this sexy man? Rush fights it as we know, but he can’t stay away from her. We’re finally getting to see the turmoil that goes on in his head.

We also get to see how he tells his friends to stay away from her, especially his confrontations with Woods. I will say, the way Abbi portrayed Woods in this novel compared to the others I was a little shocked. Woods has always been one of my favorite characters of hers. When I started to read the parts with him and Rush I had to take a step back and was like, “Whoa, chill out dude”. Also, we got to see a little bit more of Nan in this book and my dislike for her has grown more since I’ve read about her. She was just as nasty and mean as she was in the rest of the books. When I thought we may see a turn around, it was yanked away quickly.

I do wish that we would have gotten a little bit more back story to Rush and his family life before Blaire. It would have been nice to maybe see some of his time with his dad before Blaire came in the picture. Overall though, this was the best addition to this story. My Rush Crush has grown even more because of this book!!!

Review: Torn by Kim Karr

Review:

I thought Torn was so much better than Connected. I thought that there was more character development in this book than in the first and even though we are still given the intimate scenes, it didn’t seem as overbearing as in the first novel.

If you haven’t read Connected do not read this Review.

After Dahlia lost the love her life and moves on, her past comes back. Everything that she had worked hard to move past and get over starts to make its way back in her life with a lie that destroyed everything.

Ben, Dahlia’s first love whom she thought she had lost forever after his death, makes his way back into her life with a story that is so hard to believe. She can’t bring herself to forgive him even though he claimed to do it for her. However, just like Dahlia, I would be angry too. If something happens in your life and will affect those around you, you need to include them with your decisions. You need to work through it with each other. I feel bad for Ben, but I also don’t pity him. He was asked to stop something that would destroy him but he continued to go through with it. He put himself in the situation that he was in.  

When Ben makes himself known and walks back into Dahlia’s life, River starts to feel threatened. He begins becoming jealous and overprotected. Plainly, he asks her “Do you still love him?” Well seriously? How could she not still have a place for him in her heart? Doesn’t mean that she was going to love River any less. I feel bad for River. Here he is thinking that he doesn’t have to worry about anything and then this other guy that he may have competition with comes strolling back into the lives of him and the woman he loves. Does he over react a lot? Yes. Does he get angry? Of course he does. Do I think he acted a little immaturely? Yes I do.

Dahlia, who made me angry throughout the first book a few times, made me so proud. Even though the man that had gotten her through everything, who she had loved for so long comes back into her life, doesn’t desert the man she KNOWS is the right one for her. What I felt was the best was she wasn’t going to abandon him even though he began trying anything and everything to get back with Dahlia. She put her foot down and proved how strong she really was.

Also, finally in this book… we find out what Xander kept telling River to tell Dahlia. Everything that I thought… any inkling of idea that who Bell was going to meet at the frat house was confirmed. So after I felt bad for Ben in the beginning, I wanted to punch him in the face. My exact words when I read it, “Screw you, you d-bag.” Like really? Don’t go and cheat on the girl that you claim is the love of your life, fake your death saying that you did it for her and then think everything is okay. You can take your messed up self and bounce.

There is heartache and sadness in this book. There is love and understanding in this book. Everything that I didn't get from the first I got from the second. I'm glad that I rad Torn even though Connected made me angry. The next book in the series is a novella about Xander... I'm so psyched and I can't wait to read about him!

Review: Connected by Kim Karr

Review:

Finally was able to get my hands on Kim Karr’s “Connected” and “Torn”. I have mixed reviews about these two books. I will be reviewing both of these so you’ll have my thoughts quickly. I think overall I liked the second one, “Torn” better than the first novel “Connected”. I wanted to like “Connected” but after I got through the middle of the book I started to dislike it immensely.

Let’s start with “Connected”. It had everything that I was looking for. I loved the beginning. There was enough that even though it had similarities to other stories that I had read, it had its differences. However, after hitting a certain point, I started to dull on me. After Dahlia suffers from more tragedy she is reacquainted with someone from her past.

Dahlia meets with River and the draw she felt to him once before starts to be rekindled. She compares him to a past love and it begins to bother me. Everyone is different and honestly, just because someone does something doesn’t mean the other person is going to do it the same way. I understand if someone meant that much to you, you are going to compare a little bit but its starts getting overwhelming. I really liked River’s character. He was a bad boy, but he also had the charm and the respect for women that I love. He’s definitely a red-blooded male and has sex on his mind all the time, but he’s sweet. After we meet River, we meet his brother Xander and his sister Bell. After meeting them, Xander is continually telling River that he needs to tell Dahlia something. I think I read faster to find out what and then WE DON’T FIND OUT!!! So along with the cliffhanger at the end I was kept on my seat.

Now, I’m not one to shy away from a book with sex in it, but I felt like every time I turned the page, Dahlia and River were going at it again. I actually wanted to through the book at one point because of it. Then they are talking about how each of their bodies moves and which way they turn. I didn’t need to know that she twitched her nose. The storyline didn’t suffer I suppose, but I would have liked some more of their characters. You learn about Dahlia’s job, but after she starts dating River it’s like that job has just disappeared. You lose the development of what she loves to do and I loved her job. If I had the time and patience to be a photographer, I would do it.

Overall, I liked "Connected". Would I recommend it to someone? Sure. It wasn't that bad even though I wanted to throw the book at one point. The cliffhanger that Kim Karr leaves you at the end killed me. I couldn't have been more frustrated and more OMG when I read the last bit of the book.

Review:

When I read the summary for Jasinda Wilder’s book, “Alpha” I was excited and intrigued. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. The cover is seductively awesome. How could I not like this book?  I have not read any other books from her and after reading this one, I’m not sure if I’ll read another one. I was okay with it in the beginning. I did mind the characters. I actually had sympathy for Kyrie. Talk about get hit when you’re down.

After being fired from her job, she honestly felt like the world was against her. That is until the check came in the mail. Now honestly, if a check for $10,000 just showed up in my mailbox, I would probably cash it too. Would I have second thoughts? Sure! Who wouldn’t? When Kyrie is ‘collected’ finally after living off of these mysterious checks, all I thought was, “yes! It’s going to get good now!”

That was more or less where the store ended for me. I felt it was page turn after page turn of porn. Of course I’m not one to back down from a book with sex…. And lots of it, but it was all sex and no story. There was the instant attraction between Kyrie and Valentine Roth. There was teasing and there was some dialogue, but I felt like it was just smut.

I could have been so much more I suppose but then again, I’m not a writer. I felt with the summary of the book I was in for a great book and I was let down majorly. I almost just left it and didn’t finish it. The ending really just aggravated me more. Like a lot of the books, I’ve been reading it just ended. So overall, a complete disappointment and a waste of my time.
